NATE CertificationNorth American Technician Excellence (NATE) is a non-profit organization for the heating & air conditioning industry that tests and certifies installers and technicians. To maintain certification after passing the initial exam, a technician must attend a minimum of 60 hours of NATE-approved training every five years. Consumer Reports says, "It’s a plus if a technician is NATE‑certified," and the EPA tells consumers to ask if the technician is NATE-certified.
